Hawks Win Third Straight Behind Gabbert’s Stellar Outing
In Boise’s first road game of the year, their pitchers looked right at home.
In Boise's first road game of the year, their pitchers looked right at home. Two early home runs from Sean Skelly and D.J. Poteet in the first and third innings were all they needed as starting pitcher Matt Gabbert had one of the better performances of the year so far on the hill. Gabbert might be only 20 years old, but that didn't stop him from dominating en route to 11 strikeouts while giving up no runs and only five hits in seven innings of work. Chukars starter Dusty Baird didn't have a bad day himself outside of the two home runs, striking out seven in five frames. However, his teammates couldn't get anything going on offense as Gage O'Brien continued what Gabbert started, shutting down Idaho Falls in the final two innings. A little insurance in the ninth ended the game as a 6-0 final and third straight victory for Boise.
Missoula Capitalizes on Billings' Pitching Woes to Even Series at Two
After the doubleheader yesterday in which Missoula and Billings split, it was the men on the bump which defined the game today. Taking what Mustang starter Jared Kengott gave to them, PaddleHeads hitters drew seven walks in the first four innings, scoring three runs including two free passes with the bases loaded in the first. With this early cushion, PaddleHeads starting pitcher Kelvan Pilot cruised against his former team, striking out at least one batter in each of his six innings of work for a total of seven strikeouts while allowing just five hits. Two more runs in the fifth and sixth for Missoula provided enough beathing room for the bullpen to match the success of Pilot. They allowed just two hits and a run in the remaining three innings and Missoula improved to 2-2 on the year with a 5-1 victory.
Range Riders' 18 Hits Spoils Voyagers Throwback Night in High-Scoring Affair
Wearing their "Electrics" throwback uniforms, the Voyagers started out hot on offense scoring eight runs in the first four innings, led by three RBIs from Jaylyn Williams. However, the Range Riders were also ready to play with seven runs in the top of the third and the game was knotted at eight going into the fifth. The next three innings were all Glacier as Mason Dinesen homered in the sixth and Ben Fitzgerald capped his six-RBI day with a three-run rocket in the seventh that left his bat at 110 mph. The Voyagers attempted to comeback with three runs in the final three innings, but the Range Riders' constant barrage of offense proved to be too much with seven innings where they scored at least one run ultimately giving them the win, 17-11.
Vibes Total 17 in Continued Game from Thursday Against Owlz
In a game yesterday where the Vibes led 5-0 before it was suspended in the bottom of the first, the offense picked up right where they left off. Scoring three runs in the top of the second was able to fend off the continued revenge tour for Josh Glenn, as he matched his home run total for the Vibes last season in just his 3rd game for the Owlz with his second homer of the year. The hitting didn't stop for Rocky Mountain as they went on to score a run in every inning of the six that were played before a lightning delay stopped the game early. Dusty Stroup knocked in four of his teammates to tie him atop the South Division RBI leaderboard in a weather-shortened 17-6 final.
Jackalopes Notch Their First Win of the Season in Clutch Pitching Display
After losing their first three at Lindquist Field, the Jackalopes finally looked to right the ship. In a game where Raptors pitcher Chase Stratton pitched eight innings of two-hit baseball, Grand Junction was able to key in on the basepaths scoring their first two runs in the first and fifth innings on wild pitches. This was enough for Grand Junction, as the Jackalopes staff was able to get out of jam after jam and the Raptors finished with 10 runners left on base in the contest. Trey Morrill confirmed the shutout for the Jackalopes, catching three straight batters looking in the bottom of the ninth and collecting the save in the 3-0 win.
