Since losing the opening game of their season to the Idaho Falls Chukars at home, the Boise Hawks have not looked back.
Since losing the opening game of their season to the Idaho Falls Chukars at home, the Boise Hawks have not looked back. Powered by yet another strong pitching performance, Boise has extended its win streak to four in a row, sitting at the top of the South Division standings, alongside Ogden. Ryley Widell was the name of the night, tossing seven solid innings with eight strikeouts, four hits, two walks and an earned run. Mike Peterson entered in the bottom eighth and recorded the final six outs to lock down his first save of the season. The Hawks took an early lead in the top of the second inning after Tyler Jorgensen took a walk with the bases loaded and both Noah Marcelo and Kenny Oyama drove runners home with singles (two RBIs for Oyama). The series finale will be played at 2PM MT on Sunday, as the Chukars look to win their first game at home this season.
Rocky Mountain Vibes Win Electric Home Opener
More than 6000 fans cheered on at UC Health Park as the Vibes won their home opener on Saturday, tying the home-away series against Northern Colorado at 2. A Joe Encarnacion two-RBI single tied the game at the bottom of the fourth, a half inning that closed with a fantastic play in Left Field by Abdel Guadalupe. A three-Run triple by Casey Petersen at the bottom of the eight extended the Vibes lead to 8-4, before adding another run to one of the best and most dynamic games of this PBL season so far.
Jackalopes' Homers Not Enough Against Raptors' 15 Hits
The Grand Junction Jackalopes wanted to get some momentum going after winning their first game of the season on Friday, and a strong start at Ogden on Saturday seemed to keep things going their way. Home Runs by Jacob Cruce and Kokko Figueiredo at the top of the third gave the Jackalopes a 5-3 lead, but the Raptors quickly took control of the game, scoring in four consecutive half innings from the bottom fifth. Salvatore Gozzo chipped in a single, a double and four walks, and Juan Teixeira and Dakota Conners both drove in three runs to help propel the Raptors to the win a shared lead of the South Division.
Postponements in Billings and Great Falls
Inclement weather in Montana caused two PBL games to be postponed on Saturday. Thunderstorms in Billings forced the second doubleheader of the series between the Mustangs and the Missoula PaddleHeads. Play will resume on Sunday with games scheduled to begin at 11:05 AM. Meanwhile, the postponement at Great Falls will result in a baseball and brunch doubleheader between the Voyagers and the visiting Glacier Range Riders starting at 11:30 AM on Sunday. Both series are split at two games each, meaning an action-packed day can shake up the early-season standings in the North Division.
