Bats Rally Late, Superman Catch by Dinesen Caps Glacier’s Dramatic Home Win
Glacier kept its lead on top of the North Division standings thanks to a late rally from their offense, earning a 9-8 victory.
Glacier kept its lead on top of the North Division standings thanks to a late rally from their offense, earning a 9-8 victory. Catcher Matt Clayton posted a strong line for the Range Riders, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Kingston Liniak's three-run homer at the bottom of the eighth gave the Range Riders the lead before Clayton doubled to right field to bring in Ben Fitzgerald with an insurance run. The Vibes threatened a comeback in the top of the ninth with two consecutive bases-loaded walks with two outs. Their hopes were cut short though by a phenomenal game-ending, full-extension diving catch by Mason Dinesen on Casey Petersen's drive into left field. The series finale will be played on Sunday at 1:05 PM.
PaddleHeads Bang Out 23 Hits, Rout Billings 15-5
The highest-scoring offense in the league was at it again on Saturday night, as every player in the Missoula lineup recorded at least one hit. Jakob Guenther and Cameron Thompson recorded five RBIs each, and Patrick Chung collected four hits and scored four runs, and Keaton Greenwalt drove in three to help Missoula combine for 23 hits. Chung (17), Guenther (17), and Greenwalt (16) are all top five in hits in the PBL. A four-run fifth inning and a solo homer from Bryce Donovan in the top of the eighth were not enough for Billings to overcome their opponents' bats, as the Mustangs have dropped five games in a row. Austin Dill was solid in his first start of the year, striking out eight in 5 1/3 innings, bringing his season total to 15 punchouts in 10 innings across four appearances. Mitch Sparks earned the save by pitching the last three innings, striking out two. Missoula will attempt to sweep this three-game series at 2:05 PM on Sunday.
Hawks Emerge Victorious Behind Strong Effort from Widell
Boise's Ryley Widell recorded his second win of the season after six innings of work with nine strikeouts, propelling the Hawks pitcher to the top of the strikeout leaderboard in the PBL. Ogden's Chase Stratton also missed plenty of bats, racking up nine strikeouts of his own in 5 1/3 innings, though he was tagged for seven runs. The Raptors recorded 14 hits, with Rafael Narea (four), Reese Alexiades, and Landen Barnes (three each) combining for 10. The Hawks were more efficient at the plate, however, scoring eight runs on nine hits to take the game 8-4. Boise currently leads the South Division and the series at 3-2, as Ogden will aim to level the score and cut Boise's lead in the standings on Sunday at 1:05 PM.
Jackalopes and Chukars Split Doubleheader in Idaho Falls
Rain on Friday forced a postponement in Idaho Falls, setting the stage for a Saturday doubleheader. The reigning champions Grand Junction Jackalopes won the early game 9-4, their first win in this series against the Chukars, powered by strong bats at the top of the lineup. Jacob Cruce, Kokko Figueiredo, Joe Johnson, and Austin Chouinard combined for four runs, 10 hits, and six RBIs in 15 at-bats. Riyan Rodriguez posted a strong outing to close the game for the Jackalopes, allowing just one base runner in 2 2/3 innings. The Chukars bats came alive halfway through the late game, jumpstarted by a home run from last week's North Division Batter of the Week Chris Monroe. Sam Troyer, C.J. Dunn, and Bryce Brown combined for six hits, while Jordan Myrow's four RBIs helped contribute to a 14-9 win for the Chukars.
Owlz maintain winning ways against Voyagers at home
Northern Colorado extended its winning streak against the Voyagers to three in a row after Saturday's 9-8 win. The victory kept the Owlz just a half-game below Boise in the South Division standings. Abdel Guadalupe scored three runs and homered, finishing a triple short of the cycle. The Voyagers will look to bounce back on Sunday starting at 1:05 PM.
