Jorgensen Notches Cycle, Dykstra Goes Deep Twice as Boise Drops 20 on Grand Junction
Tyler Jorgensen became the second player this season to hit for the cycle – he smacked an RBI triple in the first inning, a three-run homer in the third inning, a double in the fifth inning, and a single in the sixth.
In the second game of the series, the Boise Hawks made the field look like batting practice in a 20-8 rout of the Grand Junction Jackalopes. Tyler Jorgensen became the second player this season to hit for the cycle – he smacked an RBI triple in the first inning, a three-run homer in the third inning, a double in the fifth inning, and a single in the sixth. Casey Dykstra drove in the first runs of the game on a three-run blast and struck again in the eighth inning with a grand slam, finishing the night with seven runs batted in, tying Missoula's Keaton Greenwalt for the single-game high this season. Raymond Gil also homered early in the contest and drove in three runs with three hits. Boise stays just behind the Ogden Raptors in the South Division.
Glacier 6, Great Falls 5: Justin Coleman Records Seventh Save to Break Franchise Record
The Glacier Range Riders kept their early lead throughout the night in a bounce-back victory against the Great Falls Voyagers, tying up the series on Wednesday night. After the Voyagers struck in the first, a quick four-run bottom of the inning gave the Range Riders the lead on the back of a Crews Taylor two-run shot and a pair of RBI first-base visits. Though Shane Gustafson pitched an eight-strikeout performance in five innings, the damage was already done, and a solid bullpen from the Range Riders stopped all scoring past the fourth inning. Reliever Justin Coleman recorded his first save of the season and seventh of his career, becoming the all-time leader in Range Rider history in games saved.
Missoula 14, Idaho Falls 7: Missoula Rides Ten-Run Sixth Inning to 12th Win in Last 13 Games
In what seemed like a close match for the first half of the contest, the Missoula PaddleHeads surged ahead with a ten-run sixth inning to defeat Idaho Falls 14-7. After trading runs in the first three innings, Patrick Chung singled two in early in the sixth, and that kicked off a barrage of Missoula scoring that quickly all but sealed the game early. Reigning North Division Batter of the Week Keaton Greenwalt contributed a bases-clearing triple, Thomas DeBonville hit a two-run homer, and four PaddleHead batters each tacked on at least one other RBI in the monster inning. A Michael Kohn three-run home run bit back at the lead in response, but it wasn't enough to close the gap. Missoula remains head and shoulders above the pack in the North Division with a six-game lead over the Glacier Range Riders.
Ogden 8, Rocky Mountain 3: Raptors Continue Winning Ways in Weather-Shortened Contest
After a lightning delay forced the teams to call the game in the middle of the eighth inning, the Ogden Raptors walked away with a win over the Rocky Mountain Vibes. Ogden starter Jake Mullholland only allowed five hits and three earned runs in his six innings pitched, dealing six strikeouts to keep damage to a minimum. While holding a narrow lead over the Vibes, Juan Teixeira and Reese Alexiades went a combined six for nine with three runs batted in to lead the offense. Two consecutive three-run innings in the fifth and sixth secured a cushion for the Ogden bullpen to come in and outlast the Vibes until the inclement weather called the contest early. Ogden still sits ahead of Boise in the standings with six wins in their last seven games, while the Vibes have hit a seven-game slump.
