Mustangs’ Offense Keeps Them Hot In Doubleheader Sweep Over Owlz
The Owlz struck first in the make-up of Wednesday's game, with a Jackson Coutts RBI double and an Abdel Guadalupe RBI single going towards a 3-0 lead in the third. After a two-run fourth from Billings highlighted by an RBI double from John Michael Faile and an RBI walk for the Owlz in the sixth, the Mustangs entered the bottom of the seventh down 4-2. Connor Denning cut the lead to one with an RBI groundout leading to Gabe Wurtz's walk-off two-run single for the win. Wurtz went three for three with two RBI and Faile also had two hits for the Mustangs. Despite the loss, Northern Colorado's starter Austin Schneider had a solid outing, only giving up one earned run and four hits while striking out seven in five innings.
The bats came alive for both teams in game two as both teams scored early. With Northern Colorado holding a 3-2 lead, Mitch Moralez hit a three-run homer for Billings in the bottom of the third to take the lead. A Jackson Coutts RBI single and Euro Diaz two-run single gave the Owlz the lead back, but Billings broke the game open in the sixth as Gabe Wurtz had another RBI single and Wyatt Crenshaw joined the fun with a two-run double. The inning was capped off with the Mustangs' second three-run home run of the game, this time coming from Brady West to give the Mustangs a 13-6 lead. Northern Colorado put up three runs in the seventh, but it wasn't enough to prevent a doubleheader sweep. Wurtz, Moralez, Crenshaw, and West all had multiple RBI for Billings with Moralez leading with four. Diaz had three RBIs and Guadalupe had two for Northern Colorado.
Boise 8, Grand Junction 5: Boise's Six-Run Eighth Seals Series Win Over Grand Junction
The rubber match between the Hawks and Jackalopes got off to a fast start, with an RBI single from Kole Kaler and an RBI double from Raymond Gil to give Boise a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Grand Junction retaliated immediately with a Joe Johnson RBI triple and a Ron Washington Jr. RBi single to tie the game. The Hawks were down by two going into the eighth but exploded for six runs highlighted by a solo homer from D.J. Poteet and a three-run shot from Ronnie Allen Jr. to take a lead that wouldn't be lost. Five Hawks players had RBI, led by Allen Jr. who had three. Joe Johnson had three hits for Grand Junction in the loss. The Jackalopes move on to face the Rocky Mountain Vibes on Friday while the Hawks have a day off before facing the Raptors.
Glacier 6, Great Falls 5: Range Riders Edge Past Voyagers With Late Comeback
Great Falls got to work early with RBI singles from Derek Kolbush and Collin Runge contributing towards a 3-1 lead in the second. After Nick Lucky scored off of a wild pitch in the second to cut the Voyagers' lead to one, the score remained the same until the seventh inning. Kolbush hit another RBI single and Eddie McCabe's second RBI sac fly of the game put the Voyagers up 5-2 in the seventh. Lucky drove in two with a double for Glacier and a Ben McConnell RBI single tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Jackson Raper hit his third home run of the year to take a 6-5 lead for the Range Riders, and the game was finished off by reliever Justin Coleman, who earned the win.
Missoula 7, Idaho Falls 0: Penrod, Chung Lead Missoula's Dominant Shutout of Idaho Falls
The Missoula Paddleheads again showed no signs of slowing down against Idaho Falls on Thursday night as they had the advantage of both sides of the ball. The scoring started with a solo home run from Thomas DeBonville and a two-run homer from Jared Akins in the third. Patrick Chung singled to take a 4-0 lead in the fourth and singled again in the eighth to drive in another run as the Paddleheads won 7-0. The Missoula pitching was impressive once again with starter Zach Penrod only giving up three hits in seven shutout innings while striking out seven hitters. The Chukars only had five hits in the game. Patrick Chung led the Paddleheads offense with three hits and two RBI. This series continues Friday night.
Game Between Raptors and Vibes Postponed in Fourth
Logan Williams and Jacob Barfield each had RBI doubles for their respective teams as poor weather ended Thursday night's game early. The South Division showdown will continue at a later date.
