Owlz Take Series Win Over Jackalopes with Walk Off Victory
With the series between Northern Colorado and Grand Junction tied at one, Thursday night's rubber match would decide its winner. The Owlz got the scoring started with a two-run homer from Dave Matthews in the second. Anthony Ray had a two-run single and Jacob Cruce hit an RBI double, which paired with a Northern Colorado error to earn the Jackalopes a 4-2 lead. Northern Colorado clawed back With a Tim Bouchard RBI single and an Estevan De La O solo home run to cut the Grand Junction lead to 5-4 in the fifth. The score stayed the same in the ninth until Kevin Higgins hit a two-run single for the win. The Northern Colorado bullpen kept them in the game with three strong shutout innings. Higgins and Matthews led Northern Colorado with two RBI, while Jackson Coutts had three hits and scored twice for the Owlz.
Ogden 18, Idaho Falls 5: Logan Williams' Impressive Nine-RBI Game Leads Raptors in Blowout Over Chukars
Logan Williams took care of business at the plate early, starting in the first with a three-run home run to give the Raptors a 3-0 lead. Williams had an RBI double in the third and continued to rake with an RBI double in the fourth, paired with a Reese Alexiades RBI double to give the Raptors a 7-1 lead after the fourth. The Chukars started to show some life with a Zach May two-run homer in the fifth followed by an RBI single in the sixth to help get his team within two. Then the Raptors took over with nine runs in the seventh with two-run hits from Nick Ultsch and Sal Gozzo, capped off with a grand slam from Logan Williams. The Raptors put up 18 runs, led by Williams' nine RBIs and Ultsch's four RBIs. Zach May put up a solid effort with three RBI on the day for the Chukars. This series continues Friday night in Idaho Falls.
Glacier 7, Boise 6 (KO1): Glacier Outlasts Boise in Knockout Round Victory
The Hawks got off to a hot start Thursday night, scoring three in the first with a Sean Skelly RBI single and Casey Dykstra two-RBI double to for the early 3-0 lead. Hawks hitters were walked five times in the bottom of the third, allowing two to score and Boise was up 5-1. Glacier batters did not have a single hit for an RBI in this game as they scored four off sacrifices and were walked seven times, as were Boise hitters. After Nick Lucky's RBI walk in the top of the seventh tied the game at six, no one else would score, leading to a knockout round. Glacier first baseman Dean Miller beat Dykstra 1-0 to secure the series win for the Range Riders.
Rocky Mountain 8, Billings 6: Rocky Mountain Survives Billings' Hot Start in Comeback Win
It didn't take long for the Vibes to have the lead with a three-run first inning, highlighted by Edmond Americaan's RBI double, but Billings took over afterward. The Mustangs overtook the Vibes by scoring five in the second and one in the third, though the only hit that drove in runs was Taylor Lomack's two-run single. However, they wouldn't score again. Americaan and Ethan Lopez scored on a passed ball and a wild pitch to cut the Billings lead to one. Lopez walked in a run to tie the game in the fifth, while a Dusty Stroup RBI triple in the sixth and a Casey Peterson RBI single in the eighth made the score 8-6 Rocky Mountain, where it remained. Rocky Mountain reliever Marvin Guzman took over after Billings scored their runs and pitched four and a third shutout innings while striking out nine. Rocky Mountain took the series with this win and both teams face new opponents starting Friday night.
Missoula 4, Great Falls 1: Missoula Edge Past Great Falls in Close Pitching Battle
With both offenses quiet Thursday night, it was up to the pitchers to make the difference. Only one run was scored in the first five innings: a Dondrei Hubbard RBI double for Missoula in the second. The Paddleheads started to pull away in the sixth with a Patrick Chung two-run homer and a Keaton Greenwalt RBI double, which was enough to win behind their strong pitching. Great Falls only had two hits, with one being a Charley Hesse solo home run. Missoula starter Connor Schultz stepped up and pitched 6 1/3 strong innings, only giving up two hits and one run while striking out eight. The Missoula relievers didn't give up a hit. Great Falls starter Brett Lorah was solid, giving up three runs in five innings with five strikeouts, while their relief pitching did all they could to keep the Voyagers in the game. Missoula will move on to play Glacier while Great Falls will take on Boise on Friday night.
