Poteet Powers Hawks Again as Division Races Heat Up
The Hawks have an uphill task to chase down Ogden in the South but have a fantastic opportunity against a slipping Mustangs squad and can lean on their star man, D.J. Poteet.
The Hawks have an uphill task to chase down Ogden in the South but have a fantastic opportunity against a slipping Mustangs squad and can lean on their star man, D.J. Poteet. Poteet has been nothing but productive all season, hitting new strides as of late and adding a 3-for-4 night with two doubles, and scoring all three times he reached base. The game was all square at three after one, with Luke Fennelly walking home the first run of the game, Mikey Edie driving in two with a single, and the Hawks tying things up quickly. From there, Matt Voelker was able to quiet the Billings bats, with a seven-inning, five-hit quality start. The visitors were able to make things interesting late with a solid relief outing from McLain Harris and two runs in the ninth, but Mike Peterson worked his way out of a tense inning to seal the victory. Sam Olsson, Alex Baeza, and Raymond Gil all chipped in a pair of RBIs for the Hawks in the 7-5 win.
Ogden 12, Rocky Mountain 4: Raptors Final Push off to Flying Start
The stars were once again out for the Raptors as they look to fight off the Hawks for the South lead, as Logan Williams went yard twice and Reese Alexiades hit a blast of his own in a convincing victory. This damage was all done in the first four innings, with Ogden jumping out to a 5-0 lead. The rest of the lineup had its fun later on, compounded by Vibes errors. Brett Carson and Elvis Peralta drove in two apiece for Rocky Mountain, but hits were few and far between thanks to Pablo Arevalo's eight strikeouts in six innings of largely dominant work.
Glacier 8, Idaho Falls 3: Glacier Gets After Chukars Early
Glacier comes into the final week of the First Half on a mission to make things interesting for the North Division crown, and their fourth victory in a row and sixth out of seven puts them just 3.5 games behind Missoula, whose game was postponed due to weather. The Range Riders tallied seven of their eight runs in the first three innings with contributions up and down the order, with Ben McConnell's bases-clearing double leading the way. Starter Nick Zegna has put together several solid outings in a row, this time going seven innings and giving up two of the three Chukars runs. Eduardo Acosta drove in two for the visitors.
Grand Junction 7, Northern Colorado 5: Jackalopes Bullpen Helps Stop Skid
Grand Junction halted a four-game losing streak as they aim to escape the South's First Half cellar. Henry George led the contest off with a home run, part of a strong performance at the head of the Owlz order where he reached base all four times up. The first half of the matchup was back and forth, with a Dave Matthews home run leveling affairs at three. Northern Colorado couldn't manage a hit for 3 2/3 innings after that thanks to a stifling bullpen performance from Grand Junction, and offensive contributions from Jacob Cruce among others to make it 7-3. The away side had the tying run at the plate with a late rally, but Calvin Marley slammed the door with a strikeout to end the game. Jaylen Hubbard was also impressive for the hosts, falling a home run short of the cycle.
