The Raptors entered Tuesday night's action with a chance to clinch their third straight South Division First Half title with a win combined with a Boise loss. Early on, things looked bleak for Ogden, as Dusty Stroup's bases-clearing double keyed a six-run second inning for the Vibes. The Raptors mounted a comeback though on the back of Rafael Narea, who singled in a run in the bottom of the second and smacked a grand slam in the bottom of the third to bring Ogden to within a run. Rocky Mountain put up two runs in the sixth and tacked on another in the seventh and led 11-8 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. However, Sal Gozzo hit a solo homer, Coleton Horner hit an RBI single, and after Narea was hit by a pitch with two outs, Cam Phelts drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 11. Reese Alexiades singled down the left-field line to bring home Horner with the winning run, giving Ogden a wild 12-11 victory. With Boise also winning, Ogden's magic number is down to 1 – they can clinch their playoff spot with a victory or a Boise loss.
Missoula 9, Great Falls 5 (1) Missoula 4, Great Falls 2 (2): PaddleHeads' Magic Number Down to 1 After Doubleheader Sweep
After a rainout on Monday, the Missoula lineup wasted little time getting to work in the first game of their doubleheader in Great Falls, as Luis Navarro cracked a three-run homer in the top of the second inning. The PaddleHeads poured it on in the third inning, scoring five times on a two-run single from Austin Bernard, a sacrifice fly by Navarro, and McClain O'Connor's two-run double. Dondrei Hubbard added an RBI double in the fifth to extend the Missoula lead to 9-2. Anthony Herron Jr.'s bases-clearing double brough Great Falls a little closer, but Liu Fuenmayor recorded the last seven outs of the game to lock down the victory.
Navarro continued his excellent day in the nightcap, giving the PaddleHeads an early lead with a two-run homer in the top of the second inning. Hubbard added a solo shot, and Jakob Guenther's sacrifice fly provided some insurance for Izzy Fuentes, who was sharp on the mound. Fuentes allowed just five hits and two runs with one walk and eight strikeouts in six innings, earning his fifth victory of the season. Mark Simon worked around a lead-off single in the bottom of the seventh, earning his sixth save of the year. At 32-12, the PaddleHeads can clinch the North Division crown for the fifth straight half with a win over Great Falls or a Glacier loss.
Boise 7, Billings 6: Hawks Hold off Mustangs, Stay Alive in Division Race
With the Raptors on the verge of wrapping up the South Division for the first half, the Hawks needed a win to stay alive in the race. Boise struck early and often, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first thanks to an RBI single from Sam Olsson, a two-run single by Derek Maiben, and a sacrifice fly from Anthony Walters. Maiben added an RBI double in the third inning, and Alex Baeza's two-run single in the sixth gave Boise a 7-2 lead. The Mustangs' offense awoke in the eighth inning, scoring four runs on two-run singles by Taylor Lomack and Jason Ajaiman. Billings put two men on in the top of the ninth, but the number-one 2023 PBL Draft pick Drew Marrufo struck out Lomack to secure a four-out save. The Hawks still face a steep climb to try to steal the division crown, trailing Ogden by 3.5 games with four games left in the half, but they still have a chance heading into Wednesday.
Grand Junction 17, Northern Colorado 13: Jackalopes Use Five Homers to Outslug Owlz
The Jackalopes and Owlz engaged in a slugfest in the second game of their series. The Owlz struck first in the opening frame on a Danny Perez three-run homer – the first of three hits for Perez on the night. The Jackalopes answered with a six-run third inning thanks to three home runs – a solo homer by Joe Johnson, a two-run shot by Ron Washington Jr., and a three-run shot by Tyler Sandoval. Jacob Cruce joined the home run party in the fourth inning, launching a two-run homer to extend the Grand Junction lead to 9-3. The Owlz chipped away at the deficit with four runs in the top of the fifth, but the Jackalopes responded in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single from Johnson and a two-run homer by Anthony Ray. Northern Colorado answered right back though, scoring six runs on six hits to take a 13-12 lead in the top of the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Abdel Guadalupe and a two-run single from Tim Bouchard. The Jackalopes took the lead back in the seventh with three runs, including an RBI double by Ray and an RBI knock from Jaylen Hubbard. Glacier 8, Idaho Falls 4: Range Riders Win Fifth in a Row, Cling to Hope in North Division Race
The Range Riders jumped on the Idaho Falls pitching staff immediately on Tuesday night, as Jackson Raper gave them a lead just two batters into the game with a two-run homer. Gabe Howell doubled home a run in the second inning, and RBI singles by Dean Miller, Nick Lucky, and Sam Linscott gave Glacier a 6-0 in the third. The Chukars scored four times in the top of the sixth inning, but RBI doubles by Howell and Raper gave Glacier some breathing room, and Roy Robles, John Natoli, Joseph Kinsky, and Luke Dawson combined for 3 1/3 shutout innings of relief. The Range Riders have won five games in a row and are now 15-5 at Glacier Bank Park this year. They still hold onto a slim chance at winning the North Division First Half crown.
