In the clash between the Pioneer League's top teams, Missoula came out on top of an intense game, capped off by a knockout round. The Raptors started out strong, getting solo shots from Reese Alexiades and Dakota Conners in the first and second innings, along with Rafael Narea tacking on an RBI single in the third. Brock Gilliam didn't allow any runs for the first four innings, but the dam finally broke in the fifth inning when Thomas DeBonville drove in Luis Navarro. After Austin Bernard scored on a wild pitch, Keaton Greenwalt delivered with a three-RBI double to take the lead, setting up Navarro for a three-run moonshot. An eight-run fifth finally ended, and the Ogden bullpen stopped any damage for the rest of the night. Finally, Juan Teixeira batted in two and Alexiades delivered a three-run homer of his own to tie the game at eight in the eighth, setting up the knockout round in Missoula. Already with a home run to his name, Luis Navarro was the hero of the night, as he drove one out on the first swing of his go to secure the late-night win and give the PaddleHeads a 2-0 lead in the series.
Mustangs 8, Range Riders 3: Pat Maybach's Near No-Hitter Halts Range Riders' Win Streak
In a fantastic display of pitching, the Billings Mustangs brought the Glacier Range Riders' 10-game win streak to a screeching halt on Wednesday night with a 8-3 win. Starter Pat Maybach was throwing gas all night, bringing a no-hitter into the ninth inning while only facing the minimum number of batters, striking out 10 and the only baserunner reaching on an error. Maybach's hope for a hitless performance fell when he allowed Dinesen to single, and after walking Gabe Howell, Jackson Raper homered them both home to eliminate the shutout. Maybach was still able to finish off the complete-game effort. Offensively, the Mustangs started with an error by pitcher Rob Hamby, who also allowed Connor Denning, Mitch Moralez, Taylor Lomack, and John Michael Faile to score an RBI hit in the third and followed up that with a three-run fourth to quickly fall into an 8-0 hole after twelve outs. The Mustangs delivered when they needed it the most to stop the white-hot Range Riders, evening the series.
Jackalopes 11, Chukars 5: Grand Junction's Bats Stay Hot in Idaho Falls, Take Game 2
After a hitting clinic last week against the Owlz, the Jackalopes came back to their winning ways against the Chukars by winning their first two of the series, defeating the home team on Wednesday 11-5. Anthony Ray and Jaylen Hubbard each batted in a pair in the second inning to quickly go up 4-0 and would keep that lead throughout the night. Ray would get a second RBI double in the fourth and score on a wild pitch to Hubbard, and Colin Gordon and Joe Johnson both sent balls over the fence in the fifth. The Jackalopes never trailed or let the lead get below two runs, even with Michael Kohn batting in three of five runs for Idaho Falls. Grand Junction now overtakes Rocky Mountain for fourth in the South Division, and Idaho Falls stays in last in the North on a nine-game losing streak.
Vibes 4, Owlz 2: Low-Scoring Pitchers' Duel Results in Vibes Victory
In another battle on the mound where runs were scarce between these two clubs, the Vibes got the win at Future Legends Complex. Rocky Mountain's Christian Day dealt six innings with five strikeouts, six hits, and two walks in the start, only allowing two runs in the first. Dave Matthews and Abdel Guadalupe each sacrificed a run home to take a quick lead, but the Vibes struck back in the subsequent innings with an RBI groundout from Austin Elder, a two-run home run in the fourth to take the lead from Stephen Wilmer, and another RBI from Elder to double the lead in the sixth. Both bullpens rose to the occasion to stop the other from scoring late in the match, and Jackson Cunningham recorded his first save of the season for the Vibes with one hit and one strikeout. The Vibes Fall back into the last spot but are only three games back from the Owlz in this must-win series.
Voyagers 12, Hawks 7: Dominant First Half Launches Voyagers to Second Straight Win
Great Falls grabs another road victory in their series against the Boise Hawks, moving them up the leaderboards above the Chukars with a 12-7 win. Riley Jepson drove Xane Washington across the plate early in the first, then was brought home himself with Collin Runge getting his fourth home run of the season. Jaylyn Williams followed that up with a solo shot to quickly jump to a 4-0 lead, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Raymond Gil halved the lead with a two-RBI single in the bottom of the first, but Great Falls kept piling on the runs, scoring eight unanswered in the second and the fourth. Jepson, Runge, and Williams each batted in another, and Nick Emanuel, Langston Ginder, and Jaylen Armstrong also contributed to the well-balanced offense. The Hawks attempted to climb back with five straight runs, led by Alex Baeza and D.J. Poteet, but Breonn Pooler pitched a clean eighth and ninth with five strikeouts and no hits to seal the win for Great Falls. The Voyagers have climbed out of last in the division and put the Hawks on the ropes in the series.
