Owlz Go Deep Five Times, Drop 24 on Chukars
The game turned sideways in the second inning, with the Owlz dropping an eight spot. Danny Perez hit a solo shot, and after a slew of bases-loaded walks, Jackson Coutts smacked a grand slam to bust the game open.
The Chukars took an early lead in Windsor on Tuesday night thanks to an RBI single from C.J Dunn. However, the game turned sideways in the second inning, with the Owlz dropping an eight spot. Danny Perez hit a solo shot, and after a slew of bases-loaded walks, Jackson Coutts smacked a grand slam to bust the game open. Coutts and Tim Bouchard hit back-to-back long balls as part of a five-run sixth inning, which gave the Owlz a 19-4 lead. Estevan De La O capped the home run barrage with a pinch-hit three-run shot in the bottom of the seventh inning, putting the Owlz up 18. Coutts finished his magnificent day with a two-run single, giving him seven RBIs on the night. Every player in the Northern Colorado starting lineup recorded at least one hit, and eight of the nine starters drove in a run.
Boise 8, Ogden 5: Hawks Rally Late to Soar Past Raptors
In a battle between the top two teams in the South Division, Ogden and Boise traded blows for most of the night. The Raptors drew first blood on Cam Phelts' two-run single in the bottom of the second inning, but the Hawks responded with two of their own in the third on a Kenny Oyama RBI double and Kole Kaler's RBI groundout. The Raptors took the lead back on Juan Teixeira's solo home run, and the Hawks tied the game again on an RBI grounder from Anthony Walters in the sixth. Ogden answered though, as Dane Tofteland cracked a solo homer and Sal Gozzo scampered home on a double steal to give Ogden a 5-3 lead. In the following half inning, Raymond Gil hit a solo homer, Trevor Minder scored on an error, Oyama scored on a groundout by Sam Olsson, and Alex Baeza capped the four-run rally with an RBI single. Nate Alexander and Casey Dykstra both tossed scoreless innings, and after an RBI single by Tyler Jorgensen, 2023 PBL Draft pick Drew Marrufo struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save.
Rocky Mountain 13, Grand Junction 9: Vibes Hold Off Late Charge by Jackalopes
Rocky Mountain dominated for most of their series opener against Grand Junction. Dusty Stroup got the scoring started with a solo homer, and Ethan Lopez added a two-run homer in the third. The Vibes put added some distance to their lead with a five-run sixth inning, capped off by a bases-clearing double by David Martinez. Matt Hogan's two-run homer in the eighth inning appeared to just be window dressing, but the Jackalopes didn't go down without a fight. Jacob Cruce's three-run double brought the score to 13-9 and Grand Junction needed just one more base runner to get the tying run to the plate after Ron Washington drew his fourth walk of the game, but Marvin Guzman struck out Ethan Smith to end the game.
Billings 5, Great Falls 1: Mustangs' Arms Slow Voyagers
The Voyagers entered Tuesday's contest as the hottest team in the PBL, but the Mustangs' pitching staff was able to keep them at bay. Karan Patel allowed just two hits and one run in six innings, walking none and striking out five. Trevor Jackson tossed three scoreless innings to earn his second save of the year, allowing just two hits and striking out four. On offense, Mikey Edie homered and drove in three runs, while Luke Fennelly added a solo homer of his own.
Missoula 8, Glacier 4: Greenwalt Goes Deep Twice to Lead PaddleHeads Past Range Riders
The teams with the two best records in the PBL squared off in Kalispell on Tuesday night, and Missoula went up early on Thomas DeBonville's three-run homer in the second inning. The Range Riders rallied to tie the game thanks to an RBI single by Mason Dinesen, an RBI double by Jackson Raper, and a solo homer by Matt Clayton. Keaton Greenwalt answered for the PaddleHeads though, smacking a solo homer in the sixth inning and a two-run homer in the eighth. On the mound, Connor Schultz struck out eight and allowed just five hits in seven solid innings, earning his fourth victory of the season.
