Buddie Pindel Spins Complete-Game Shutout in Hawks’ Win Over Chukars
It was the Hawks' turn to dominate in what’s been a back-and-forth series so far. This win was all credit to the starting pitcher for Boise, Buddie Pindel.
It was the Hawks' turn to dominate in what's been a back-and-forth series so far. This win was all credit to the starting pitcher for Boise, Buddie Pindel. Pindel took the mound from start to finish allowing five hits, walking two, striking out seven, and allowing no runs to score. The Hawks' hitters scored their five runs on a bunt, sacrifice fly, and three singles and gave Pindel a large enough cushion. This series so far has not gone to help either team in the second-half standings as both sit at the bottom of their respective divisions, but with many games left to play, either could still make a run for the PBL Playoffs.
Ogden 10, Grand Junction 8: Raptors Come Up Clutch to Take Opener Against Jackalopes
Another team that's struggled to keep their momentum going from the first half has been the South Division champion Ogden Raptors, sitting at 6-9 going into this contest. However, The Raptors looked in control through the middle of the fifth as Juan Teixeira's three-run blast gave them a 5-1 lead. Then they showed a little bit of that first-half magic in this one, quickly erasing an eighth-inning rally by the home Jackalopes. Heading into the ninth trailing 8-6, Nick Ultsch homered to cut the lead to one, followed by a clutch two-RBI single from Sal Gozzo, and Dakota Conners drove in one for insurance on a fielder's choice to give the Raptors the 10-8 lead. Dan Kubiuk, who finally gave up his first run of the season in his last appearance, looked unfazed striking out the final two Grand Junction hitters for his 12th save of the season. The Jackalopes will look to bounce back to even the series in front of their home crowd tonight at 6:35.
Northern Colorado 6, Rocky Mountain 5: Wills Strands Tying Run in Scoring Position in Ninth
Two teams that are quite familiar with each other faced off in this contest, and the visiting Owlz looked in control early. Jackson Coutts and Dave Matthews started the game with RBI hits in the top of the first to give the Owlz an early 2-0 lead. The Owlz pitchers were solid for the game's entirety, only allowing two earned runs but walking 13 batters. By the middle of the eighth, the score was 6-1 Northern Colorado, but this is when the Rocky Mountain bats woke up. After scoring once in the eighth on a Matt Hogan single to make it 6-2 the Vibes capitalized on some Owlz mistakes scoring three unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth. Unfortunately for Rocky Mountain, with two runners on Cory Wills forced a flyout to clinch the win for Northern Colorado.
Billings 6, Missoula 1: Mustangs Pitching Dazzles in Victory Over PaddleHeads
Against the top team in the league in the PaddleHeads, which have continued their winning ways in the second half, the Mustangs pitchers made them look unusually normal. Luke Trueman started on the mound for Billings and was shutting down Missoula hitters from the first pitch. Only allowing one run on a Trevor Candelaria home run in the third, Trueman went six innings and struck out three. Coming in for relief, Ethan McRae finished the final three frames, only allowing two hits and striking out five. On the other side of the ball, Emmanuel Sanchez went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, and the team combined for six runs. The Mustangs will look to take another one from the PaddleHeads tonight at 7:05.
Great Falls 6, Glacier 4: Voyagers' Four-Run Sixth Sinks Range Riders
At the end of the first half, the Range Riders were on fire, coming within three games of the PaddleHeads for the North Division title. However, some things changed in the second half as they sit at 5-11 after this loss and have gone 2-8 in their last ten. Tyler Naumann started for Great Falls and was great until the sixth where he let three runs including a Kingston Liniak two-run homer giving Glacier the 4-2 lead. The Voyagers bounced back immediately, scoring four in the bottom of the inning to give them the 6-4 lead that they would carry until the end of the game. Andrew Garcia recorded the save and the Voyagers moved to 10-6 in the 2nd half.
