Cruce's Walk-Off Caps Wild Night in Grand Junction
Joe Johnson tied the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning. With two outs and two strikes, Jake Cruce smacked a walk-off two-run homer, providing a thrilling end to an instant classic.
The Jackalopes and Owlz engaged in a barn-burner on Wednesday night, featuring seven lead changes and four home runs. After the Owlz jumped out to 1-0 lead in the second, Midseason Draft pick Lavoisier Fisher cracked his professional home run, a two-run shot to give the Jacks a 2-1 lead. The Owlz were quick to answer though, scoring four times in the third and once more in the fourth. The Jacks rallied, evening the score with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Owlz took the lead back on an error in the top of the fifth, but Fisher immediately tied the game in the bottom of the frame with his second homer of the night. The game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth inning when Grand Junction scored three times to take a 10-7 lead. The Owlz were once again up to the task though, as Euro Diaz, Henry George, Payton Robertson, and Jackson Coutts produced four straight two-out hits to bring home four runs and give Northern Colorado an 11-10 lead. That lead didn't last very long though, as Joe Johnson tied the game with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning. Boise 7, Great Falls 5: Hawks Down Voyagers with Five-Run Eighth
The Voyagers jumped out to an early lead in the second game of their series with the Hawks, with Eddie McCabe's two-run homer putting Great Falls up 3-0 in the second inning. The Hawks clawed back with two runs in the third, but Charlie Hesse smacked a solo homer in the fourth, and Giovanni DiGiacomo's RBI single in the seventh gave Great Falls a three-run lead with six outs to get. The Boise bats woke up in the eighth though – Trevor Minder hit an RBI double, Sean Skelly tied the game with a two-run single, and Tyler Jorgensen gave the Hawks the lead with a two-run knock of his own. For Skelly, that was his fourth hit of the night. Drew Marrufo, Noah McBride, and Nate Alexander combined to record the final six outs of the night as the Hawks evened up the series at a game a piece.
Rocky Mountain 17, Ogden 8: Crosby, Stroup Lead Way as Vibes Rout Ogden
No baseballs cleared the fence in Colorado Springs on Wednesday night, but every player in the Vibes lineup recorded a hit, leading Rocky Mountain to their second straight win over Ogden. The Vibes scored early and often, jumping on Ogden for three runs in the first inning, one in the second, and five in the third after the Raptors scored six in the top half of the inning. After a scoreless fourth inning, Rocky Mountain added some distance to their lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Despite recording just one hit on the night, Dusty Stroup drove in five runs, including a two-run triple, two sacrifice flies, and a bases-loaded walk. Brandon Crosby was a sparkplug at the top of the lineup, going 4-for-6 with a double and three runs scored. Former big leaguer Ryan Lavarnway made his Vibes debut, going 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored. Lavarnway caught the first five innings of the game before being removed. The Vibes have a 3.5-game lead in the second-half standings and are now just 2.5 games back of Ogden in the overall South standings.
Billings 8, Idaho Falls 1: Maybach Tosses Second Complete Game, Billings Wins Third Straight
For the second time this season, Pat Maybach completed all nine innings of a game, making him the only pitcher in the PBL to do so multiple times this year. Maybach didn't miss many bats, allowing 10 hits and only registering two strikeouts, but he allowed just one run in a game that lasted a mere two hours and 12 minutes. The Billings lineup did plenty to support Maybach, scoring eight unanswered runs after Idaho Falls took a 1-0 lead. Luke Fennelly hit a solo homer, and Connor Denning went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. The Mustangs have now won three games in a row, though still sit five games back of a playoff spot.
Missoula 6, Glacier 2: Navarro Drives in Four to Lead PaddleHeads Past Range Riders
Coming off their second straight loss, the PaddleHeads got off to a fast start against Glacier on Wednesday night. After two of Missoula's first three batters reached base, Luis Navarro gave the PaddleHeads an early lead with a three-run homer. Patrick Chung added a solo homer in the following inning, and Navarro drove in his fourth run of the contest with a double in the fifth. Cameron Thompson double home Navarro to add some cushion for the Missoula pitching staff. Dawson Day battled through four shutout innings in his return from injury, throwing 88 pitches but allowing just four hits and no walks. Mark Timmins earned his sixth win out of the bullpen, allowing two runs and striking out six over four innings. Mark Simon closed the game out with a clean ninth inning, striking out two in the process.
