The Rocky Mountain Vibes have completely reversed the course of their season in the second half, and they handled the Ogden Raptors for the fourth straight day on Friday. The Vibes got going early, with Jacob Barfield giving them a first-inning lead on a two-run homer. In the second, Matt Hogan added a two-run homer of his own, extending the lead to four. Hogan wasn't done – leading 5-1 in the bottom of the eighth, he smacked his second two-run shot of the night. On the mound, Zach Ottinger dodged traffic and held Ogden to just one run in seven innings of work despite allowing eight hits. Ottinger has now pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run or fewer in three straight starts. With the win, the Vibes increase their second-half lead to 4.5 games and are just a half-game behind Ogden in the overall standings.
Boise 10, Great Falls 8: Hawks Bounce Back, Rally Past Voyagers
Looking to rebound from their loss on Thursday, the Hawks got off to a fast start on Friday, scoring twice in the first and three times in the second to take a 5-0 lead. The Voyagers got back in the game though, thanks in large part to Eddie McCabe. The second baseman singled home runs in the second and fourth and came around to score on Jaylyn Williams' two-run single. After Casey Dykstra's solo homer increased the Boise lead to 6-4, McCabe doubled in two runs to tie the game. The Hawks answered though, scoring once in the sixth and seventh innings and twice in the eighth to take a 10-6 lead. Williams and Charlie Hesse homered to cut the deficit in half, but Nate Alexander finished off the game by striking out the last three batters he faced.
Billings 10, Idaho Falls 4: Mustangs Stay Hot, Gain Ground in Division Race
The Billings Mustangs continued their strong month of August, improving to 15-7 in the month with their fifth straight win. Billings scored twice in the second inning, then added three more runs in the third, including a two-run single by Luke Fennelly. Taylor Lomack homered to extend the lead to six in the fourth, and John Michael Faile continued his torrid month with a two-run double to key a three-run sixth. Brady West added some insurance with a solo homer, giving him three RBIs on the night. Luke Trueman tossed the first 6 1/3 innings, and Nate Jenkins and Keagan McGinnis recorded the last eight outs of the game. The Mustangs move to within four games of Missoula in the North Division second-half standings.
Glacier 10, Missoula 3: Crooked Numbers Lead Range Riders Past PaddleHeads
The Range Riders scored multiple runs in four different innings in the fourth game of their series with Missoula, evening up the series at two games a piece. Mason Dinesen opened the scoring with a two-run double in the bottom of the second, and he came around to score on an RBI groundout by Austin Bates. Glacier added three more in the third inning – Christian Kirtley hit an RBI double, Crews Taylor drove Kirtley home with a triple, and Jackson Raper's sacrifice fly increased the lead to six. After Missoula broke up the shutout in the fourth inning, Ben Huber drove in a pair with a double in the fifth to increase the lead to 8-1. The Range Riders tacked on two unearned runs in the eighth inning to give them double digits in the run column. On the mound, Jack White struck out nine batters in 5 2/3 innings and Ben Ferrer, Roy Robles, and Justin Coleman combined to record the last 10 outs.
