Range Riders Erase Early Deficit, Down PaddleHeads with Late Rally
The Range Riders woke up in the bottom half of the fourth, loading the bases before Kingston Liniak delivered a grand slam to cut the deficit to two. In the fifth, Christian Kirtley smacked a solo homer, and Mason Dinesen knotted the game with an RBI single.
In Sunday's series finale, the PaddleHeads wasted no time getting a lead, with Josh Elvir and Keaton Greenwalt both hitting two-run homers in the first inning. Greenwalt added a solo shot in the third inning, and Dondrei Hubbard's RBI groundout gave Missoula a 6-0 advantage. The Range Riders woke up in the bottom half of the fourth though, loading the bases before Kingston Liniak delivered a grand slam to cut the deficit to two. Missoula went back in front in the sixth on Patrick Chung's RBI double, and the 7-6 score held until the bottom of the eighth inning. The Range Riders found some two-out magic – Dean Miller laced an RBI single, Liniak scored on a wild pitch, and Kirtley doubled home Miller for an insurance run. Montana Quigley tossed a scoreless ninth inning to secure his first save of the season. Glacier still clings to the final postseason spot after the series split.
Billings 5, Idaho Falls 1: Mustangs Win Seventh Straight Behind Dominant Pitching
The Mustangs stayed red hot on Sunday afternoon, finishing off a six-game series sweep at Dehler Park and winning their seventh straight game. The Billings pitching staff was fantastic, starting with Brandon McPherson, who allowed just four hits and struck out seven over five shutout innings. Trevor Jackson allowed a run in the sixth inning but struck out four over his two frames of work, and Keagan McGinnis racked up a punchout in his scoreless inning. Hunter Schilperoot finished the job, striking out two in the ninth. Offensively, Gabe Wurtz and Alejandro Figueredo both hit homers, and Taylor Lomack collected three hits. With Missoula losing, the Mustangs move to within three games of the second-half North Division lead.
Grand Junction 12, Northern Colorado 7: Cruce's Big Day Leads Jacks Past Owlz
The Jackalopes finished off their week by taking all three games from the Owlz at Future Legends Field, thanks in large part to outfielder Jacob Cruce. The lefty-swinging Cruce knocked the Owlz on their heels with a grand slam in the top of the third inning, which was immediately followed by a solo shot from Austin Chouinard. Northern Colorado answered with a five-run fourth inning, but the Jacks answered with three runs in the top of the fifth, highlighted by Lavoisier Fisher's two-run double. Cruce drove in his fifth run of the day in the sixth inning, and the Jacks padded their lead with three more tallies in the inning and added another insurance run in the eighth. Cruce finished the day going 4-for-5, driving in five runs and scoring five. With their hot week, the Jackalopes are just two games back of the Vibes in the South Division second-half race.
Ogden 13, Rocky Mountain 5: Raptors Score in Every Frame in Shortened Game
The Raptors took their second straight against the Vibes, scoring in every inning of a weather-shortened affair. They scored multiple times in each of the first four innings, building a 10-2 by the end of the fourth inning. They added a single run in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, which was more than enough to withstand a three-run fifth from Rocky Mountain. Josh Broughton collected three hits and drove in three runs, and Dakota Conners chipped in three hits and two RBIs. The Raptors extended their lead in the overall South Division standings back to 2.5 games.
Boise 4, Great Falls 2: Spears Leads Strong Pitching Effort Boise
The finale between the Hawks and Voyagers was a low-scoring affair, with Brayden Spears and Tyler Naumann both putting together strong starts. Spears was charged with just one earned run in six innings, allowing five hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Naumann kept the score even, getting charged with two earned runs and allowing five hits and three walks with three punchouts in his six innings of work. The Hawks broke through in the seventh though, with Trevor Minder and Alex Baeza delivering RBI singles to give Boise the lead. Casey Dykstra, Drew Marrufo, and Nate Alexander combined to record the last nine out and secure the victory for the Hawks.
