For the second week in a row, the Mustangs did not lose a single game, running their league-best winning streak to 13 games.
For the second week in a row, the Mustangs did not lose a single game, running their league-best winning streak to 13 games. Billings wasted no time asserting themselves on Sunday, with John Michael Faile smacking a two-run homer in the top of the first inning – the first of five home runs the Mustangs hit on the day. After Ogden tied the game in the bottom of the first, Luke Fennelly cracked a solo homer to give Billings the lead again. Fennelly capped off a three-run third inning with a two-run double, extending the lead to four. Taylor Lomack added to his red-hot week with an RBI double in the fourth inning, and Mikey Edie blasted a two-run homer to give Billings a 9-2 lead in the fifth. Ogden didn't go away easily, scoring four times in the fifth inning, featuring a two-run triple by Nick Ultsch. Ogden cut the lead down to two in the sixth inning, but Faile crushed a monstrous three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to add some distance to the Billings lead. Fennelly added a two-run homer for his second round-tripper of the day later in the frame, and the Billings pitching staff was able to withstand a four-run ninth inning by the Raptors for a 14-11 victory. With Missoula getting rained out, the Mustangs now have sole possession of first place in the second-half North Division standings.
Glacier 15, Great Falls 7: Gordon's Huge Day Powers Range Riders to Seventh Straight Win
The Voyagers were first to strike in their series finale in Kalispell, but the Range Riders answered in a big way, scoring a franchise-record 11 runs in the bottom of the second inning. The first three batters of the frame all reached base, and Colin Gordon drove them all in with a grand slam to open the scoring for the Range Riders. After Dean Miller and Matt Clayton singled in runs, Kingston Liniak hit his sixth home run of the last four games, a two-run shot to extend the lead to 9-1. Jake Mackenzie capped the rally with a two-run double, giving Glacier a double-digit lead. Gordon added to his big day in the fifth inning, driving in three runs with a triple in the bottom of the fifth inning, extending the lead to 15-1. On the mound, Noah Barros allowed just one earned run and struck out three over seven innings of work. Great Falls scored four times in the top of the ninth inning, but it was far too little and too late. The Range Riders have won seven games in a row, though they now sit on the outside looking in on the postseason picture.
Boise 5, Grand Junction 3: Spears Dominates on the Mound, Keeps Jackalopes Out of First Place
The Boise lineup jumped out to an early lead in their series finale against Grand Junction, scoring four times in the bottom of the first inning. Anthony Walters singled home two to open the scoring, and Alex Baeza padded the lead with a two-run homer. On the mound, Brayden Spears was strong for the Hawks, allowing just one run and six hits with nine strikeouts in six innings. The Jackalopes got closer in the seventh, with Joe Johnson smacking a two-run homer to cut the Boise lead to just one. Johnson is now just four total bases shy of Jayson Newman's single-season record from 2022. Baeza added an insurance run for Boise in the eighth, and after the Jacks got two men on with one out in the ninth, Nate Alexander induced a double-play ball to end the game. The Jackalopes head into their final series against the Vibes still trailing them by a game in the South Division second-half standings.
