Ballers Sign PBL Batting Champ Dondrei Hubbard
The Oakland Ballers have announced the first player signing in franchise history
The Oakland Ballers sign OF Dondrei Hubbard to a contract for the 2024 season. Hubbard, who played for the Missoula Paddleheads last season, slashed .395/.456/.623 in 317 plate appearances on route to the 2023 Pioneer League batting title. He also hit 11 home runs and 29 doubles, with 50 RBI and 63 runs.
Hubbard will also serve as an Assistant Hitting Coach on manager Micah Franklin's staff. He also has been designated as the Ballers' "franchise player", which allows a player who has exceeded the service time maximum of 3 years to play another year.
Hubbard's professional career began in the Bay Area with the Sonoma Stompers of the Pacific Association in 2019. His career has seen him sign with the San Diego Padres in 2020, and the Washington Nationals in 2022. With the Nationals he was sent straight to Double-A Harrisburg, where he played in 46 games.
"I am so excited to have Dondrei with us, this guy is the definition of a baller. He's going to be a big bat in our lineup, driving guys in, and hitting the ball out of the ballpark. I got to coach him while he was in the Washington system, this guy is going to be a big piece for us. He also is going to bring a great veteran presence to our clubhouse and he'll be able to help out some of the younger guys as a coach as well" said Micah Franklin, Ballers Manager
The Ballers have signed 10 players to date and will be announcing them daily throughout the next week starting with today's announcement. Future news on tickets and promotions will be announced at a later date.
