Greene was not on the original NL roster, but has made it on to the team as a replacement selection. He will replace Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow. He's the second Red player to make the team, joining infielder Elly De La Cruz.
The 24-year-old has started in 18 games this season, recording a 3.45 ERA with 116 strikeouts. He's 5-4 as a starter in what has been his healthiest start to an MLB season.
Greene suited up for the Mustangs in 2017 after being the second overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft. He suited up for Billings both as a pitcher and as a Designated Hitter before eventually going to the mound full time.
Greene has become a focal point of the Reds future, signing a new six year, $53 million contract in 2023. During the 2022 season, Greene became the only MLB rookie since 1900 to have at least three appearances in which he threw six or more innings and had eight or more strikeouts. He was also the first Red pitcher age 25 or younger to start on opening day since 1980.
The All-Star Game is set for Tuesday, July 16 in Arlington, Texas.
