Playing in the PBL
Player Eligibility:
The Pioneer League is a proud MLB Partner League and, among the Partner Leagues, is the only league focused on developing your players. As such the PBL has a service time limit of three (3) years of professional experience. Click here for more on the eligibility rules.
Roster Size:
PBL clubs may carry an active roster of up to twenty-five (25) players, although players inactive due to injury do not count against the roster limit. Players drafted from a sanctioned tryout camp allow PBL teams to expand their roster by an additional player.
Tryout Camps:
The PBL currently conducts a post-MLB Draft tryout camp in late July. Each PBL club is represented at each of our tryouts and are required to sign no less than two (2) players from the camp. https://www.pioneerleague.com/Players/2022_Mid-Season_Tryout_Camp
Interested Prospects:
Anyone interested in being considered for a spot on a PBL club may submit their information here. Prospects who complete the form and are eligible will have their information distributed to the scouts, managers, and front office personell of each PBL club for their consideration.
MLB Player Transfers:
Since 2021, over 60 (60) players were signed from the PBL clubs to MLB organizations. The PBL readily assists MLB clubs in scouting our players and, as we are a development league, works closely with MLB to prepare players for possible promotion to higher levels of professional baseball.
Spring Training:
Each PBL club determines its own spring training schedule and roster size.
