Former Missoula Osprey, Jazz Chisholm Jr. Returns to the Spotlight in 2025 MLB Home Run Derby
Former Missoula Osprey standout and Pioneer League alumni Jazz Chisholm Jr. is set to compete in the 2025 MLB Home Run Derby, bringing his electric talent from Rookie ball to the national stage with the New York Yankees.
Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s path to Major League stardom began in 2016 with the Missoula Osprey of the Pioneer Baseball League, where he made his professional debut at just 18 years old. Signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks as an international free agent from the Bahamas, Chisholm quickly made his mark in Missoula. Over 62 games as the team's starting shortstop, he showcased the electric tools—speed, power, and flair—that would define his career. By season's end, he was ranked the 9th-best prospect in the PBL and the 5th-best in the Diamondbacks' organization, signaling his potential to rise quickly through the ranks.
Fast forward to 2025, and Chisholm is now a key contributor for the New York Yankees, bringing that same energy and explosiveness to one of baseball's biggest stages. After debuting in the majors in 2020 and becoming a fan favorite with the Miami Marlins, Chisholm was traded to New York, where he's enjoyed a breakout season—already hitting 17 home runs in 61 games. His performance has earned him a spot as the final participant in the 2025 MLB Home Run Derby, taking place tonight in Atlanta.
Chisholm's selection marks a full-circle moment, spotlighting the important role developmental leagues like the Pioneer League play in shaping future stars. From his early days in Missoula to the national spotlight of All-Star Week, Chisholm's journey is a reminder that greatness can be forged in any ballpark.
