Chris Sargent is Ogden’s New Homer King
Catcher Chris Sargent blasted four home runs over the final two games of Ogden’s road series in Grand Junction, bringing his season total to 33 homers and making him the franchise’s single-season home run king, surpassing Reese Alexiades’s 29-homer mark from 2023.
Sargent's offensive numbers are even more impressive given that his 31 homers came in just 76 team games—the length of the Pioneer Baseball League's former short-season format.
He has also driven in 124 runs, tying the Pioneer League's single-season RBI record held by Steven Rivas from 2024. One more RBI will set a new standard, although Roberto Peña of Missoula (116 RBIs) remains in hot pursuit.
With a current record of 44–33 overall and 18–12 in the second half, the Raptors are well-positioned in the playoff race and remain tied for third place alongside Idaho Falls, edging Boise and Yuba-Sutter by 2½ games.
Chris Sargent also received Hitter of the Month honors for July, batting .440 with a .517 on-base percentage and a staggering .910 slugging percentage. Over 24 games, he tallied 44 hits, including eight doubles and 13 home runs, while driving in 38 runs. At this point in the season, Sargent Jr. is seventh in batting average (.384), third in homers (35), and first in RBIs (130). His consistent production and power helped fuel the Raptors' offense as they powered through the second half of the season.
Sargent recently signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres and will leave the team as they make their final push for a playoff spot.
