Ballers Capture Franchise’s First Pioneer League Title
OAKLAND, Calif. – In front of a sold-out Raimondi Park, the Oakland Ballers captured the first championship in franchise history with an 8-1 victory over the Idaho Falls Chukars in Game Five on Sunday night.
Oakland seized control immediately. In the bottom of the first inning, Jake Allgeyer crushed a three-run homer to right, bringing home Tremayne Cobb Jr. and Esai Santos for an early 3-0 lead. Cobb Jr. extended the cushion in the second with an RBI single that plated Tyler Lozano, making it 4-0.
The Chukars hung around until the seventh, when the Ballers blew the game open. Christian Almanza drove in a run on a fielder's choice, and Cam Bufford followed with the decisive swing — a towering three-run blast to right-center that pushed the lead to 8-0.
Bufford finished with three RBI and a run scored, while Allgeyer matched him with three RBI on his first-inning homer. Cobb Jr. added two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base, while Santos reached base twice and scored twice. Oakland managed only six hits on the night, but made them count.
Idaho Falls avoided the shutout in the ninth with a solo homer from Trevor Rogers, their only extra-base hit of the game. The Chukars were held to just three hits overall and went 1-for-10 with runners on base.
The Ballers' bullpen was dominant. Adam Bogosian earned the win with 3.1 hitless innings of relief, striking out four. James Colyer and Connor Sullivan combined to lock down the final three frames, with Sullivan recording the last outs that set off a raucous on-field celebration.
With more than 4,100 fans in attendance, the Ballers closed their inaugural title run in fitting fashion — a defining moment for Oakland baseball and a fresh chapter in Pioneer League history.
