Pioneer Baseball League Names Oakland Ballers Recipients of 2025 McCurdy Cup
Oakland, CALIF. — The Pioneer Baseball League (PBL), an MLB Partner League, today awarded the Oakland Ballers the 2025 McCurdy Cup, recognizing the franchise as the league's top overall organization for the 2025 season.
The McCurdy Cup, named for beloved former PBL President Jim McCurdy, is presented annually to the Pioneer League organization that demonstrates excellence in performance, operations, and contributions to the league. Oakland's selection follows a season in which the Ballers captured the 2025 Pioneer League Championship, marking the franchise's first league title.
"I'm so very pleased to make this award to the Oakland Ballers for their incredible 2025 season, displaying excellence both on and off the field," said PBL President Mike Shapiro. "What the Ballers have done in the Oakland community, and particularly with a fan base that experienced the loss of their MLB club, was nothing short of miraculous."
Oakland followed their strong regular season, which resulted in the most wins in PBL history, with a postseason run that culminated in winning the league championship in only the club's second year of operation. Among the club's many 2025 highlights are:
•PBL record 70-win season
•10-year lease extension
•$3 million in crowdfunding
•Too Short & Billy Joe Armstrong join ownership
•Highest merchandise sales in PBL
•National media attention
•Highest playoff attendance in PBL history
•First professional sports team managed by AI
•Historic Google partnership
"On behalf of the Oakland Ballers, we are deeply honored to receive the McCurdy Cup," said the team's Co-founder, Bryan Carmel. "The 2025 season was unforgettable and historic in so many ways, but this recognition carries special weight because it comes from our peers."
