Pioneer Baseball League Players of the Week: Week 4
Johnson, Martin Named Pioneer Baseball League Players of the Week Sponsored by RedPocket Mobile
The Pioneer Baseball League has named RedPocket Mobiles infielder Justin Johnson and Long Beach Coast right-hander Jack Martin its Players of the Week sponsored by RedPocket Mobile. Johnson earned Hitter of the Week honors after producing an extraordinary six-game power streak against the Yuba-Sutter Freebirds, while Martin received Pitcher of the Week honors following a commanding start against the Modesto Roadsters.
Johnson batted .481 with a .548 on-base percentage and a 1.148 slugging percentage, going 13-for-27 with six home runs, 11 RBI, nine runs scored, four walks, 31 total bases, and a 1.697 OPS. Most impressively, he homered in all six games of the series while recording at least one hit, one run, and one RBI each night.
His week opened with a 4-for-5 performance that included a solo home run and two runs scored on June 9. Johnson added three hits, another homer, two RBI, and three runs in a 24-8 victory the following night. He continued the streak with home runs in each of the next four games, including two-run blasts on June 12 and June 13, before driving in three runs in the Mobiles' 7-1 victory on June 14.
Martin provided a different kind of dominance for Long Beach, controlling the Modesto lineup over seven strong innings in an 11-3 victory on June 10. He allowed one earned run on six hits, issued no walks, and struck out five while improving his record to 2-0 and lowering his season ERA to 2.35.
Modesto scored its lone run against Martin in the third inning, but he kept the Roadsters scoreless across his other six frames. He faced 26 batters and threw 60 of his 93 pitches for strikes, consistently attacking the zone and working deep enough into the game to preserve the Long Beach bullpen.
Johnson's six-game home-run streak and Martin's efficient seven-inning start represented two of the league's strongest performances of the week. One overwhelmed opposing pitchers with relentless power, while the other controlled the game with command and consistency, earning both players recognition as the Pioneer Baseball League Players of the Week sponsored by RedPocket Mobile.
