Over 140 Players Chase Their Pro Baseball Dream at PBL Tryout Camp

MARYSVILLE, Calif. — The Pioneer Baseball League welcomed 142 aspiring professional players to its 2026 Midseason Tryout Camp, held July 17 and 18 in Marysville, California. Over two demanding days beneath the California sun, participants competed in workouts and live-game action while showcasing their abilities in front of representatives from across the PBL.

The camp concluded with 18 players being selected by Pioneer League clubs. All 12 teams made a selection in the opening round, beginning with the RedPocket Mobiles choosing right-handed pitcher Dakota Aspinwall with the first overall pick. The Yuba-Sutter Freebirds selected right-hander Eric Vasser second, followed by the Idaho Falls Chukars taking outfielder Robert Pitts with the third pick.

The remainder of the opening round included Reed Gallant to the Great Falls Voyagers, Austin Balentine to the Oakland Ballers, Parker Hogge to the Boise Hawks, Noah Souza to the Missoula PaddleHeads, Cole Seward to the Modesto Roadsters, Jake Estrada to the Glacier Range Riders, Michael Saumell to the Ogden Raptors, Porter Robinson to the Billings Mustangs and Ray Hernandez to the Long Beach Coast.

Six additional players were chosen in the second round. Idaho Falls acquired the 13th selection from Long Beach and used it on outfielder Irvin Weems III. Billings selected Andrew Ivy Jr., Modesto chose Kyler Bacosa, Missoula added Theo Bryant, Oakland selected Keaton Campbell and Yuba-Sutter completed the draft by choosing Zach Gregory.

For those selected, the opportunity begins immediately. The players will now report to their new clubs and join the final stretch of the 2026 Pioneer Baseball League season. Each will have the chance to contribute as teams compete for position in the standings and attempt to push their way into the PBL Postseason.

The two-day camp offered every attendee an opportunity to demonstrate that he belonged in professional baseball. For the 18 players whose names were called, the conclusion of the camp marked the beginning of a new chapter—and a chance to turn a tryout into a meaningful role in a postseason race.
